Marwari Horse
Origin of the Marwari horse
The earliest recorded origin of the Marwari horse was on the borders of Afghanistan, in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and particularly in Turkmenistan. Most horses from this area are Mongolian horse descendants crosses with Arabs "?? these types being the most common horse in northern Iran and the steppe lands north of the Black and Caspian seas. The Marwari is closely related to the horses of Turkmenistan and the adjacent territories and their appearances are very similar apart from these other breeds lacking the Marwari's distinctive curved ears.
When the Moghuls invaded northern India in the early 16th century, they brought with them Turkmene-type horses to Rajasthan, and these likely bred with the local Rajput stock. There is also a strong connection with Kathiawari breed of Gujerat beside the region of Marwari, and consequently there is some Arab influence from that source.
