Czechoslovakian Warmblood
Bred mainly for modern competition, the Czechoslovakian warmblood is also at times referred to as the Czechoslovakian half breed "?? though in fact it is a horse produced from a wide mix of European breeds. The main purpose of this breeding programme was to impart in the breed "rideability"? making them ideal for novice or average skilled riders.
Diverse Influences
Thoroughbred and Arab blood runs thick in the veins of the Czechoslovakian Warmblood as it was developed at the studs in Slovakia and the Czech Republic from a mix of breeds incuding, The Nonius, the Furioso, and the Gidran( themselves developed from many breeds) and thoroughbred/Arab "half-breds" based on them, along with the influential Shagya Arab, the pride of Hungary's Babolna Stud.
Czechoslovakian Warmblood Characteristics
No dominant type has emerged from this amalgam of bloods but the Czechoslovakian Warmblood has discernible conformational features such as the straight, Arab like line of the croup, the low broad withers, and the set of the shoulders.
The movement is more like that of a light carriage horse (probably resulting from roadster influence) as opposed to the floating on springs action of the Arab. The breed is usually strongly built, and has an acceptable, middle-of-the-road, riding horse conformation.
It would be considered as an ideal stamp of cavalry horse and that was in fact on of their original purposes.
The modern Czechoslovakian Warmblood is an attractive, reliable "riding club" horse. It is not a standout in either jumping or cross country riding but is still a useful horse at club level in these disciplines due to its rideability.? It is and obedient dressage horse and is a fair pacer.
It usually stands between 1.63 and 1.68 m (16-16.2 hh), and may be any solid colour.
